Hypocrisy of London: Part 6 – I would be a lot more pleasant with liquor in me.

"Alcohol: The cause of, AND the solution to, all of life’s problems" – Homer Simpson.

Hypocrisy #6: Recycling.  And liquor. MY GOD, the liquor inaccessibility (not that I drink).  One thing Alberta triumphs over Ontario: liquor access.  The LCBO (Liquor Commissioning Board of Ontario) dictates liquor access in Ontario. I don’t just mean preventing minors from buying liquor, but rather controlling the stores and their hours of operation.  It’s a government thing. And one thing about government things?  The stupid office hours.  It’s like working a 7 hour day is too long for them, and they have to take a lunch break as well, leaving you from 9:30 – 12:00 and 1 – 4:30 to buy liquor (okay, a little exaggerated). Don’t forget stat holidays.  You know, the ones you go and hold parties for? Make sure you buy the alcohol before closing hours the day before, because it’s government operated…they’re not open on holidays.  Come on Albertans! Speak up against this atrocity!  As such, the only place that accepts deposits from cans is the LCBO. And that’s only for refillable beer bottles (that’s right boys and girls, they refill these).  There are no other deposit places in Ontario. There is no motivation to return bottles and cans.  The only two provinces in Canada that do not have any bottle (deposit-) return depots are Manitoba and Ontario.  You pay the deposit, but you don’t get the refund. This is horrible! Someone, please save me from this wretched province…pleeeease.  Doesn’t it just seem hypocritical that the government that tries to doesn’t condone drinking and driving also hands out both the beer and drivers licenses?  And they make sure you have a license before you buy liquor, just like any other province, except the liquor store isn’t privately owned.
